DSL SETUP GUIDE -- Important, Read First!! The cd will not work on the MAC.
NOT set up the DSL modem. Step 1 >>> Automatic Setup Insert the NETOPIA installation CD and follow the on-screen directions (you have already done one of the steps with the filters and phone cord to the DSL modem). If after 60 seconds you do not receive a Netopia Menu, double click on 'My Computer', double click on your CD Drive. It should be labeled 'Netopia 2200'. When prompted for your username and password enter your internet username and password. Or you can do the manual install First you need to be plugged in to the modem bypass any other devices you have. Next open your browser and type in 192.168.1.254 for the URL and click on go. If this is the first time you are configuring the modem or if the modem has been reset you will be prompted to create a password for the modem. Now it will ask you for the username and password for the modem, username will be "admin" and the password is what you created for the modem. When you have entered the correct modem username and password you will be sent to a screen informing you that your device is currently configuring itself. This will automatically go to the next prompt were it will be asking you for a isp username and isp password. Finally when you click on submit it should redirect you to the modem manufacturer's page, your modem is now configured. Wireless configuration (Wireless modem needed) You have two options, one you can run the cd on every computer you want to connect with the wireless. Or you can configure manually. If you choose the cd just select connect via wireless from the cd menu. If you choose the manual configuration you will not be able to use the cd to setup the wireless on the other computers. Manual configuration: open your browser type in 192.168.1.254, enter the modem username and password. On the Status page you will need to click on expert mode at the left, then yes or submit in the middle. Now at the left click on Configure, then LAN, and in the middle at the bottom click on wireless. Again at the bottom click on advanced. Here are your wireless settings; your SSID is the name of your network we recommend you change that to something like your last name wireless (Smith wireless). Now for the encryption you have some options we recommend WPA-PSK, which allows you to create your own password that has to be at least eight characters long using letters and or numbers. Once you have made the necessary changes click on submit. You will see a yellow triangle appear in the upper right hand side click on it. Then choose save and restart. This will save your settings in the modem and restart your modem. Once the DSL light is solid you should be able to connect to the internet using your wireless settings. |
